Magical Styling tips by Linen & Lace
Winter weddings are so magical and romantic, you can create such a cosy, warm and inviting, intimate atmosphere. Soft warm lighting is key, so use candles and warm white fairy lights everywhere to create this kind of ambiance.
I love to use rich deep hues, like forest green, navy, burgundy and plum, to add to the warmth of the lighting. Metallics can be incorporated to add a touch of glamour, I equally love gold and brass tones and old silver, depending on the palette chosen.
Using rich textured fabric like velvet for ribbon touches, can work so beautifully. Use them to tie your napkins and add trailing ribbons to your bouquet, mix and match colours from your palette and vary the thickness and types of fabric. Consider using coloured table linen and napkins also as a way to add warmth and depth to your wedding breakfast.
So many beautiful elements can be used to style your tables, candlesticks using rich coloured taper candles, pressed and fluted glass votives en masse, to create a beautiful twinkling effect. Floating candles in glassware can also be a pretty option, alongside beautiful dark winter foliage and seasonal flowers. Touches of fir cones, and wood slices can also work well, creating different heights with the wood and finishing touches with the fir cones.
Calligraphy on dark paper for your menu and place cards can add a luxurious touch, and can finish with sprigs of foliage, a single stem of florals, or some gold foil.
Winter Florals tips by Jo Hicks Flowers
Winter is a time for rich greens mixed with various other foliage. Eucalyptus is at its best from September onwards and gives a subtle white grey blue hue which enhances most wedding flowers.
Also a time for berries and Autumnal browns and beiges echoing the change from
summer to autumn. With the nights drawing in candles are key to add warmth and atmosphere to the reception room and for a magical ceremony. Crisp whites for January and February representing frosty mornings and crisp sunny days work well as a contrast to the deep reds, silver and golds of Christmas.
Winter is a time for combining flowers and foliage to create a cosy and welcoming feel for your guests to come in from the cold and celebrate your special day. There is always a good choice of flowers available as most are grown in warm climates and flown into the Uk. Your florist will be able to advise you what will work for the style you prefer.
